Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is on the city's Westside near the coast, with nine passenger terminals, Terminals 1 through 8 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B), set around a busy horseshoe of roadways. Standard taxis and app rides do not pick up at the terminals but at a separate lot called LAX-it.

Getting from LAX to Los Angeles
Taxis, Uber and Lyft pick up at LAX-it, reached on foot or by the LAX-it shuttle, which runs 24 hours. Metro's C and K Lines serve the LAX/Metro Transit Center, linked to every terminal by a free shuttle, and FlyAway buses run to Union Station and Van Nuys. A pre-booked private car is met at the terminal, so there's no shuttle transfer with luggage and no queue at the lot.
Arrival tips
- For a standard taxi, Uber or Lyft, follow the LAX-it signs to the shuttle stop or walk to the lot.
- A limited number of taxis also wait in Parking Structure 3, between Tom Bradley International and Terminal 3, and at the far end of Terminal 7.
- Premium app rides such as Uber Black and Lyft Lux pick up directly at the terminal instead of at LAX-it.
- Hotel shuttles stop on the upper departures level (Level 2), not the arrivals curb.

LAX transfer questions
How long does it take to get from LAX to Downtown LA?
Drive time depends on traffic on the freeways, which can change sharply through the day, so we do not quote a fixed number. As a reference, the LAX FlyAway FAQ estimates 30 to 60 minutes by bus to Union Station, without a guarantee. Allow extra time for weekday rush hours, which affect Westside routes too.
Do I have to go to LAX-it with a pre-booked car?
LAX-it is the pickup lot for regular taxis and standard Uber and Lyft rides. With a pre-booked private transfer, your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal, and you will have the driver's phone number before landing in case you need to coordinate on the day.
Is the LAX people mover train running?
An Automated People Mover is being built to link the terminals with the LAX/Metro Transit Center and the rental car center. Until it carries passengers, free shuttle buses connect the Transit Center with the lower level of each terminal. Check flylax.com for the current status before relying on it.
Can you take a group from LAX to a cruise or theme park hotel?
Yes. Groups can choose a Minivan (six seats, six bags) or a Sprinter Van with room for up to 14 travelers, which suits families, wedding parties and cruise groups heading to San Pedro or Anaheim. Child seats are available on request. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before the scheduled pickup, Los Angeles time.
