Getting from PHX to Phoenix

The PHX Sky Train runs 24/7 between the terminals and the 44th Street station, where Valley Metro Rail continues to Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. Taxis and app rides have marked curb zones at Terminals 3 and 4, and Waymo serves the rideshare areas around the clock. A pre-booked car is handy with golf bags or groups, and for resorts in Scottsdale or the West Valley.

Arrival tips

  1. Request an Uber or Lyft only once you have all your bags; Terminal 3 uses the south outer curb, Terminal 4 the Level 1 outer curbs.
  2. Taxis load at Terminal 3's north curb by door 7 and at Terminal 4, Level 1, outside north door 7 or south door 4.
  3. Late at night, Sky Train maintenance can stretch waits to 15 minutes or more; allow extra time if you are using it.
  4. Your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal; we send your driver's name and mobile number while you are still in the air.

PHX transfer questions

How long is the drive from Sky Harbor to downtown Phoenix?

The airport lies just a few miles east of downtown, so the trip is short, though the exact time depends on traffic and on which terminal you leave from. No fixed estimate is given here. Rides to Scottsdale, Mesa or the West Valley take longer, particularly during spring training season and weekday rush hours.

Which terminal does my airline use at PHX?

American and Southwest fly from Terminal 4, along with British Airways, Aeromexico, Volaris and WestJet. Terminal 3 handles Alaska, Delta, United, Frontier, JetBlue and several others. The Sky Train links both terminals, but your driver needs the right one, so check your boarding pass before you land.

Can I reach downtown Phoenix by train from the airport?

Yes. Take the free PHX Sky Train to the 44th Street station, then transfer to Valley Metro Rail toward Phoenix, Tempe or Mesa. The Sky Train runs 24/7, with waits averaging about 3.5 to 7 minutes between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. A private car saves the transfer if you have golf clubs or several suitcases.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a golf trip or family?

Yes. A Minivan takes six passengers and six bags, while the Sprinter Van fits groups of up to 14, useful when golf bags count as luggage. Child seats can be added on request. You may cancel without a fee until 24 hours before pickup, Arizona local time, and a licensed, insured local operator handles every ride.
