Getting from ATL to Atlanta
Taxis load in the Ground Transportation Center at the west end of the Domestic Terminal and outside the International Terminal arrivals level. App rides at the Domestic Terminal pick up in the North Economy lot, a walk from baggage claim. MARTA's Airport Station sits between North and South baggage claim, with rail service into the city. A pre-booked car is easier with luggage or when heading to suburbs beyond the rail network.
Arrival tips
- Check whether you exit at the Domestic Terminal or the International Terminal; they are separate buildings, and your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal.
- At the Domestic Terminal, note whether your bags arrive at North or South baggage claim and tell your driver.
- Hartsfield-Jackson permits only authorized, pre-arranged limousine services to pick up passengers; decline offers from anyone you did not book.
- International arrivals clear passport control and customs before exiting, so allow extra time after landing.
ATL transfer questions
How long does the drive from ATL to downtown Atlanta take?
The airport describes itself as roughly 20 minutes south of downtown in normal traffic, about 10 miles away. Rush hours on the Downtown Connector, game days and conventions can make the trip much longer. Your price is fixed when you book, including tolls and the airport fee, so traffic does not change the cost.
Where will my driver meet me at Hartsfield-Jackson?
That depends on whether you arrive at the Domestic Terminal or the International Terminal, and at the Domestic Terminal on whether you use North or South baggage claim. Your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal, and your driver's name and phone number are sent before you land so you can coordinate.
Is MARTA or a private car better from Atlanta airport?
MARTA's Airport Station is inside the Domestic Terminal and offers a rail ride into the city without a car, which suits light travelers. A private car goes door to door, which is easier with luggage, children or destinations in suburbs such as Alpharetta or Marietta that are farther from a station.
Can I book a van for a group or conference arriving at ATL?
Yes. A Sprinter Van carries up to 14 passengers, a Minivan carries 6 passengers with 6 bags, and a Sedan carries 3 with 3 bags. Groups landing on different flights can book separate rides, each tracked to its own flight. All rides are operated by licensed, insured local car service companies.
