Getting from EWR to New York
Licensed taxis are available outside each Newark terminal, and Uber and Lyft pick up at the curb. AirTrain Newark runs from the terminals to the Newark Liberty International Airport train station for NJ Transit and Amtrak, then you continue by rail toward Manhattan or New Jersey towns. Rail is efficient for a solo traveler, though AirTrain upgrade work can bring temporary bus replacements. A pre-booked car takes you straight to your door, which is easier with luggage or when heading somewhere off the rail lines.
Arrival tips
- Your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal; Newark's three terminals are separate, so check whether you arrive at A, B or C.
- Allow time for passport control and customs after international flights before heading to the meeting point.
- Late at night AirTrain serves Terminals B and C only on a reduced schedule, with a shuttle to Terminal A, so plan any terminal change accordingly.
- Share your trip details with your driver using the phone number we send before landing, especially if you are delayed at baggage claim.
EWR transfer questions
How long does it take to drive from Newark Airport to Manhattan?
The Port Authority places Newark about 16 miles from Midtown Manhattan. The drive time depends on traffic at the Hudson River crossings, the time of day and your destination, and tunnel approaches can back up at peak hours. Tolls are already included in the fixed price you see before you book, so there is nothing extra to pay along the way.
Which terminal will I use at Newark?
Terminal C is operated by United Airlines. Terminal A, which opened in 2022, serves Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue and United. Terminal B handles more than 25 airlines, including many international carriers. Check your airline's information before travel; your confirmation gives the meeting point for your terminal.
Is a private car better than the train from Newark?
The train route needs AirTrain to the airport station and then NJ Transit or Amtrak, which suits travelers with light bags heading near a station. A private car takes you directly to your address with no transfers, which helps families, groups and anyone traveling to suburban New Jersey. Our Minivan carries 6 passengers with 6 bags.
Do you serve New Jersey destinations as well as New York City?
Yes. Rides are operated by licensed, insured local car service companies, and you can book from Newark to addresses in New Jersey as well as New York City. Enter your exact destination when booking to see the fixed price in US dollars, including tolls and the airport fee, before you confirm.
